One of the most common everyday issues that a home will experience are slow or clogged drains. Whether it be a sink, bathtub or floor drain, there can be a plethora of reasons for the stoppage.
In the bathroom, sinks, bathtubs and shower drains are often clogged by an accumulation of soap residue that has bound with hair and skin. Eventually, these piles of gunk get stuck on the walls of your pipes and can slow or even stop your water flow. These can be a nasty business to remove and cannot always be solved with consumer products. Sometimes pipes may need to be taken apart or specialized tools used to make sure your drains are fully functional again.
Kitchen sinks can be especially prone to clogging due to the amount of food and grease that they are subjected to on a daily basis. Nobody wants to try to clean dishes or their hands in a sink that doesn’t drain! If you do not have a garbage disposal there can be large food pieces that get down the drain. You can try using a plunger, but this method does not always work, and will not also not prevent the problem from happening in the future. There may be more serious problems further down the pipeline that need professional help. Even with a garbage disposal, you can get an accumulation of smaller pieces that build up and block pipes. Always remember to not place grease or fats down your kitchen drains, or any for that matter. If you need to dispose of them, wait for them to solidify either at room temperature or in the refrigerator and them scrape them into a trash bag. This will help prevent future slowing or stopping of your kitchen drains.
Sometimes you want to replace outdated fixtures in your home, or worse yet you need to because they are broken. If you’re not an experienced handyman this can be stressful and take up precious time that could be spent elsewhere.
Drop in sinks that go through a countertop are typically the easiest to install, but even these can cause issues if you cannot remove the plumbing from the sink itself. Older plumbing may be particularly difficult disassemble. Newer style sinks such as undermount or even farmhouse style can be more technical to install. Wall mount sinks that only hang from the wall require opening the drywall up and making sure that they are properly installed.
Replacing faucets can also be a tricky business. There are many different sizes and styles, and only some are compatible with the sink you have. You need to make sure that you know what type of sink you have and discuss with our professionals if it will work for both you and your home. They are not one-size-fits-all. We can help walk you through the process.
Toilets come in all shapes and sizes. With many newer options such as low flow and dual flush, it’s great to discuss what works best for your family. However, no matter what style of toilet you choose, installation can still be a nasty matter, especially if removing a toilet that has been in the home for a long time. And if your current toilet is broken it can be an urgent matter that needs professional help to get done quickly.
